Privacy Policy — SugarFree

SugarFree ("we", "us", "our") is a sugar-tracking app that helps you scan nutrition labels, log daily sugar, and track your progress. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it.

1. Information We Collect

• Sugar, sleep, weight, and other logs you type in — sugar per food, weight, sleep, skin, mood, energy, cravings, symptoms. They stay on your phone and, after you sign in, are backed up to that account. On our server they are kept for days and then deleted automatically; the copy on your phone follows the same window. Deleting your account removes them from our server immediately.
• Photos — food/label photos you log (stored on your device and in our cloud for days so they sync across your devices, then auto-deleted). If you delete your account, the app can no longer reach your photos from that point on; the image files themselves are erased by the same -day expiry rather than instantly, so a deletion never has to wait on removing thousands of files.
• Scan / estimate input — when you use the AI estimate, the nutrition-label photo, food photo, or text you submit is sent to our backend to calculate sugar. It is used only to produce your estimate.
• Account — you sign in with Google or Apple to use AI features, sync across devices, and restore purchases. Local sugar logs stay on your device; cloud backup is optional.
• Crash/error diagnostics — anonymized crash reports to improve stability.

2. We Do NOT Collect

• Your name, unless you sign in with Google or Apple, or you email us.
• Advertising IDs, precise location, contacts, or browsing history.
• Sleep, weight, or steps from Health Connect, Apple Health, or the phone’s own health app. You type sleep and weight in SugarFree.
• We do not sell your data and the app shows no ads.

3. How We Use Data

• To provide the app (scan, log, track, and backup after sign-in).
• Signing in turns backup on for that account. There is no separate backup switch.
• Crash reports are used only to fix bugs and are not tied to your account.

4. Cloud Backup & Sync

After you sign in, logs are stored on our own backend (Alibaba Cloud), encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS), under your account. To delete them, use Profile → Delete account, or email us (see Delete your account & data). The app does not have a separate “delete cloud data only” button.

5. Account & Sign-In

You can look through onboarding without an account. After that, sign-in is required to use the app. You sign in with Google or Apple. We receive the identity and the email from that sign-in so the account can sync across devices and restore a subscription. We do not receive your card number.

Signing out. Profile → Sign out disconnects backup on this phone and returns you to the sign-in screen. Records already on this phone stay. Signing in again uploads logs that were not backed up yet. Signing out does not delete the account. There is no “sign out and erase this phone” button.

6. Third-Party Services

• Alibaba Cloud — our hosted backend (compute + storage) for optional cloud backup and the AI estimate.
• Alibaba Model Studio — AI estimate of sugar from a nutrition label or food photo (you send it only when you estimate).
• Google Sign-In — optional account linking (identity only).
• Sign in with Apple — optional account linking (identity only).
• RevenueCat — in-app purchase/subscription processing (we receive confirmation and entitlement only; never card details).
• Sentry — crash reporting (anonymized).

6a. Sleep and weight

SugarFree does not read Health Connect, Apple Health, or any other phone health app. Most phones do not share sleep and weight with other apps. You enter sleep and weight yourself. Those entries stay on this phone and can be included in cloud backup for the account you are signed into. We do not sell this data and do not use it for ads.

SugarFree is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. Consult a healthcare professional for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

7. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

• Delete account: Profile → "Delete account" — removes the account and its logs on our server and on this phone. Photos attached to your logs are no longer reachable from that moment and are erased by their normal -day expiry. You can also email us without opening the app: see Delete your account & data. Requests are usually processed within 7 days.
• Automatic expiry: even without deleting your account, logs and photos are deleted automatically days after they were saved.
• Uninstall: removes what is stored on this phone. The account and its cloud copy remain until you delete the account.
• No selling: We never sell or share your data for advertising.

8. Children

SugarFree is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; changes will be posted on this page.
